Introduction to Counseling Approach

Dr. Paul Falconer takes a holistic, person-centered, and strength-based approach to counseling, fostering a trusting and collaborative relationship with clients. This serves as the foundation for a counseling process whereby clients are able to identify issues, concerns, and barriers to self-understanding and well-being. Individuals are assisted with developing a collaborative treatment plan that addresses their personal, relationship, and career-related goals. Mental health goals often include stress management, improved problem-solving, healthy coping strategies.

Clinical Experience and Supervision:

Dr. Falconer has experience with group counseling, inpatient services, psychiatric outreach, rehabilitation programs and social service agencies.  Areas of specialization include Dual-Diagnosis Counseling (Mental Health problems along with Substance Use problems); Adjustment Counseling for issues related to Aging, Changes in Health, and Disability; and Geriatric Mental Health Counseling for older adults.

Professional Education and Clinical Training:

Dr. Falconer earned a doctorate from National University, a Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology from Adler University, and a Postgraduate Certificate in Substance Abuse Counseling from Boston University. Dr. Falconer has taught psychology as adjunct faculty at North Shore Community College and continues to provide clinical supervision to graduate students and mental health professionals. Prior to becoming a therapist, Dr. Falconer practiced architecture for 15 years, working on a variety of nonprofit housing, educational facilities, and healthcare projects.
